Job Description
The Project Manager is responsible for leading the planning, execution, monitoring and successful delivery of construction projects from commencement through completion. The role requires a qualified Structural Engineer with extensive building and construction experience capable of managing multidisciplinary teams while ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery
• Manage construction projects from tender award through project close-out.
• Develop project execution plans and construction schedules.
• Coordinate project resources and subcontractors.
• Monitor project milestones and deliverables.
• Ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
Structural Engineering
• Review structural drawings and engineering designs.
• Ensure structural works comply with applicable engineering standards.
• Provide engineering advice during project execution.
• Resolve structural issues encountered on site.
Financial Management
• Prepare project budgets.
• Monitor project expenditure.
• Review variations and claims.
• Forecast project cash flow.
• Ensure commercial objectives are achieved.
Contract Administration
• Administer construction contracts.
• Review contractor claims.
• Manage project documentation.
• Ensure contractual compliance.
Risk Management
• Identify project risks.
• Develop mitigation strategies.
• Monitor project performance.
• Escalate significant risks.
Health, Safety & Environment
• Ensure compliance with WHS requirements.
• Promote a strong safety culture.
• Conduct project inspections.
• Participate in incident investigations.
Stakeholder Management
• Liaise with clients.
• Coordinate consultants.
• Manage subcontractor relationships.
• Provide regular project reports to senior management.
Requirements & Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
• Professional Structural Engineering Certification.
• Registration with Engineers Australia, PNG Board of Engineers or equivalent professional body is highly desirable.
• Project Management qualification (PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent) is advantageous.
Experience
• Minimum 8–10 years' experience in building and construction.
• Minimum 5 years managing commercial, industrial or infrastructure construction projects.
• Experience managing multiple concurrent projects.
• Strong understanding of PNG construction regulations and standards.
• Experience managing subcontractors, consultants and suppliers.
